Mike Rapaich's Male Talent, set in that strange confluence of hills, college and industrial rot, Duluth, starts out hard with a nice Red Tube allusion and provides new spots and new skaters (yo, I know Justice Simmons, full disclosure). Highlights of the video include Duluth, super-kid Carter Nguyen and Stephen Pestalozzi, along with everyone else. It's a departure from Lake Superior harbor scene that I knew from a decade and more ago: Pocket Park, the library and Jack Boyd, et. al. Watch.

Under the wire
It's premiere season -- Kevin Horn is breaking now ground now that basically all the old first showing venues have been knocked down or vacated with a move to the Capri Theater. When the name of the flick was revealed, way back at Day of Familia, Muldoon and I figured we were the only ones in the room who noticed the bit of Planet Earth Skateboards trivia attached to the moment. Pete Spooner's also got a solo joint on the way. We're all grown up, now.Mark your calendars! Hiatus is premiering Saturday, December 17 at the Capri Theater.

There's a lot of local video footage flying around right now -- dig the Peter Jones flick that's essentially an LA/Downtown Minneapolis summer chronicle.September 23, 2016

'In the arms of an angel'
List of other memorable TC area demos
1. Birdhouse in 1996 or so at what might have been the Stearns County fairgrounds. Featured a young Andrew Reynolds and Tony Hawk doing McTwists on a 8 or 9-foot quarterpipe.
2. Flip in the middle-aughts at the 3rd Lair. There were fears the ramps would collapse because of the 700-800 people who showed up. The crush of humanity fogged up the park.
3. Girl and Chocolate in 1998 at the Lair. Mike York tried a handful of noseslides and then focused his board and left. Everything else about it was quite lit.
That's pretty much it beyond the Hot Chocolate Tour demo, which seemed redundant to list.
Here's other stuff. The DLX contingent rolled through town the past couple weeks.
I wrote a list about skaters going all Lochte at the Olympics that kids on Facebook hated.
There's another demo:

A quick look at the archives at right shows that August 2016 was the first month since July 2008 during which this website was not updated, meaning this two-month drought was the longest ever. Very significant. In order to close the circle on that last update:

Don't fear the Kre-per
Davey Torkelson appeared on the The Nine Club podcast -- you can download it in the usual ways one would or you can catch it on YouTube. *The following highlights are from the podcasting POV*
There's talk of golfing; not sacking rails at Street League; Roger Bagley evidently produces a copy of Weekend Warriors; Chad Benson's rep grows stronger; as well, the legend of Nate Compher is discussed; Davis talks about making movies. I'm generally skeptical of skate-produced stuff like this (public radio snobbery?) but this one, albeit with a dude I know, was pretty well-done. I'm gonna listen to the other ones.
Update: Forgot how much the heart grew three sizes when Davis brought up his love of bad skateparks. It's all true.
By all accounts the return of Aqua Jam will be really cool. It's this Saturday -- between the keg jumps (high entertainment) and the mini ramp built for the ordeal, it should be worth showing up for.
