Five Years of Weekend Warriors

Weekend Warriors Premier from london luke on Vimeo.

Actually, more like five years and a day, but who's nervous? The vid premiered at The Varsity Theater on Feb. 25, 2006. The clip above is basically about how to win at life. Happy weekend.

Coffin'd

The above is from the best 411 ever and was inspired by Carl Shipman and Chrome Ball. I was hoping to see the flick from Big Brother of that 360 flip fakie, but, alas...The skating in the clip has held up incredibly well, though considering the line up, that's no huge surprise. Moses Itkonen ripped exceptionally, and I was motivated to learn 360 flips on steep banks, and even make some. The jerseys are wild, but stranger things have happened. Who bought that PJ's CD?

Went snowboarding this past weekend and I'm considerably less good than I always think I am. Busted up my back and am on a Tiger Balm/Aleve regiment, hoping to skate soon, but I did get a clip.

On a completely different note, this story about Scientology from the New Yorker by Lawrence Wright is an absolute must read. Well done.

In one day Boil The Ocean will be put on blog-death-watch for not updating in a month, and stands to lose its place on my bookmark toolbar. Word is out. You'd think the Kalis Epicly Later'd episodes would have awoken his primal blogging urges.

Similarly, The Hesh has been updated seven times this year, and thus, is blowing it. Their only contribution to Western Civilization thus far this year was posting this rad video about Minnesota born Julian Mejia. Take that slackers!

Final Foote Fix

Benson does it.

For some reason this video of some chick breast feeding comes up after every video I watch while logged into my account.

Real update tomorrow.

An Ounce of Coke is an Onion

One of those parts that the Snackman missed, in his otherwise impeccable recap of skateboarding's flirtation with Big L. Rob G has been doing it since 411 10 [as a Wheels of Fortune (not on the intertets)], re-upped in 32 as a Rookie, and now he's the soon to be LBC guide to Tucker Gerrick. Go figure.

Yet another loss in the column of hip-hop songs used as instrumentals that should've used the lyrics.

I'm going snowboarding and drinking this weekend. Maybe in that order, maybe not.

Happy weekend.

Update: Peep this interview I did with Eric of the Chrome Ball Incident.

Interlude: Ghost Signs in MPLS

After seeing this post and knowing it had to come from the Middlewest (Milwaukee), I've been nerding out on ghost signs. Here's a decent site featuring those of the Twincites.

Throwback Thursday

Wayne Zerr and Andy Paulsen skate at Pat's Skatepark. Foote via Badger? Someone post in the comments what year that is.

Sweet Sorrow and the Morning After Pill, Redux

You may not know it, but Alex Conn is a Bay Area transplant from the western suburbs, who I remember mostly as a little kid with braces in a helmet. Pretty ripping nowadays though, and he's kind of got a Jaimes meets Sherman thing going on, through trick selection and looks. Probably in that order.

Video assist from Andrew Leibman, who just jumped into the blogging game with his Lurker's Digest.

Quartersnacks has a rad round up of Big L and skateboarding, which only makes me wish our thawing city would thaw faster. Springtime is all about hip hop.

Taking a total left turn, since it's budget season, if you were wondering, here's a great explanation about how the nation's finances work, in real-ish numbers.

Returning to normal programming, in case you haven't been paying attention, McGuire gets his eyebrow pierced. Heard that shit got really infected. Related, Mikey Taylor wouldn't get a perm.

Malto has a TF. Speaking of TFs, Frozen in Carbonite offers a pocket guide.

I was psyched on the Jeremy Murray Mag Minute because dude is on his own thing. However, I was a little put off by the edited/remixed version of "Sucka Nigga." Kind of de-fanged the song, didn't we? It's damn near 20 years old, I think we'd be OK with the real thing. Words have power and history, and sometimes, that's why they're important. Excuse the tangent.

Did you hear that jerboi Tucker Gerrick is moving to California? Postmortem, send-off, roast, soon to be written. A past send-off here.

Public Call Out

After skating with Kirian Stone last night, and in light of these clips, it's obvious that the dude needs to film a video part. I think I know who he can film it for.

David Nelson gets some at the Lair, via Calsurf.

Yeah, it's winter. Park clips. Happy weekend.

News Quip

Scoring only a four percent vote on the who won "Flow Trash" poll, jerboi Davis Torgerson has a New Jack in the latest The Skateboard Mag. Mostly shot by Sam McGuire and written by your humble blogger, it's sure to be kind of cool. #85 has a ton of Minnesota-centric content, "cuz we da best," so pick one up.

Expanded Davis interview forthcoming, once I get my subscription issue. The Real video is going to be really good.

Throwback Thursday will commence when I'm less busy.

I'll Be Friends

Vincent Alvarez is bonkers. Raven Tershay is bonkers. Daniel Espinoza is close to bonkers. The video got my girlfriend hyped. You know it's good. Busy busy, and I only vaguely know that it's Tuesday night. More posts forthcoming...

The rest summed up here.

Winterized

Maybe the best photo from a long weekend of skate-related goodness in the Twincities. Skatepark legs be damned; let's get this snow out of here.

Luis Tolentino going up. I think it may get even more bonkers.

This is notable.

Post some new poll ideas in the comments.

Happy weekend.

Throwback Thursday

In 1995 or so, Sissi could still kickflip.

If you haven't already, watch part 1 of Kalis' Epicly Later'd.

Rippingest Skater in Town

Chuck Odima just posted another In Transit with some new and some seen foote. Good stuff. A little bit softer now....

THE Danny Stemper for The Gorf Life.

In case you've been sleeping, Davis Recruited.

And the Davis Flow Trash contest.

AND Davis on/in TSM.

Davis, Davis, Davis! Return of Best Year Ever?
