INTERN-RETIREMENT

Not much going on here, as you've certainly noticed. It's August, you know.

I'm going on real vacation for a week. Maybe Henkler will come out of intern-retirement and put something up.

1995 Lexus ES 300

For how long shall the VX persist? Psyched on this short for the nerd factor and the Harriet Island stunt at the end, among other things. Good job, dudes.

Weekender

The Lair is having a good old-fashioned open contest this weekend. There's still time to get some.

"The Vibes About Reading Harper's"

*

While I was slacking on content a new Familia Summer Montage hit the webs. It's really enjoyable (Fulton!) and got some love around the Internet, even getting picked up by The Berrics and other footage hubs. I wonder what folks outside the state think of all the jackets in that "summer" clip?

Why we need a grip of interns: The Uprise and Sky High Mancation.

Wiskate hits 84 and the bike guy was good.

I'd mindmarked this ESPN piece about skateboarding in the Olympics with hopes that it would provide a bit more to ruminate on, but it's pretty straightforward. According to the piece: Not gonna happen for a while [and who can disagree with Lance Mountain about how it should be done anyways? (and damn, let's provide some out-site links, utilize the Internet, etc.?)]. Quibbles aside, I got caught watching 45 minutes of BMX racing during this latest Olympiad and I was impressed, perhaps because I'm also a bike enthusiast and I can appreciate eating shit. That said, I don't know if any of the plausible ways to put skateboarding in the Olympics, ala Lance's ideas, would be anymore impressive to a civilian than the BMXing that sucked me in.

Moving on, Slate got all click-worthy by analyzing what Google autofill has to say about the 50 states, complete with an interactive map. While the piece linked above says Googler's answers to "Why is Minnesota so...?" included "liberal," "humid," "windy" and "awesome," my independent attempts at verifying the results, as of this writing, swap out "awesome" for "the state of hockey," (and "windy" for "hot"). That one answer dropped off and was replaced by another exceedingly more intuitive and less-smug answer is smile worthy, and it's worth noting that we fared a hell of a lot better than other states in the union ("windy" for "hot" is also quite intuitive).

*There's a small chance that Lamar is off the hook because Harper's is a monthly magazine, though I wouldn't expect to catch Brother Mouzone slipping like that, especially in this regard. That bit of extrapolation out of the way, and with The Wire fans in mind, the actor and man who played "Lamar" in the clip above, DeAndre McCullough, died recently of an overdose, and David Simon wrote a pretty stirring eulogy about him.

Needs More Swim Stunts

Fulton filmed the dudes up at skate camp. Could have used a couple more swim stunts, as far as I can tell, but it's still pretty cool.

Boil The Ocean discusses anonymous sourcing in skate news and the even more dubious un-bylined piece.

Looks like Gino Ianucci has been skating.

Happy weekend.

That wild Indian picture happens to be stylin', you don't know what you're talkin' about.

The point of this post is that you can watch Thrashin', in its entirety, on Youtube.
