Please read Kyle Beachy on Nike SB. There are no easy nor good answers, but he lays it out just how it is. Also, he drops some gems:

Bloated, lethargic, and uncomfortably lacking any clear team identity, the video was a shrill caw from that parrot—it reminded us that we were being courted."Which brings up a much more interesting and answerable question than Nike's place in skateboarding, which is, what is the worst skateboard video of all time? Neither of the videos above lack in the skateboarding department, so that's not part of the criteria here. They're simply difficult/embarrassing/painful to watch. They definitely set the bar high, but are there others out there on par, or worse? Let me know.
Es'pecial definitely stands out to me. Great skating, horribly put together.

ReplyDeletethat Vision video "barge at will" was pretty horrendous, if i recall...overdone skits with fog and lasers of dudes barging into some warehouse to skate , etc....

nothing but the truth was horrible but wieger's part was awesome, the worst skate video of all time has got to be element's elementality, bad soundtrack, subpar skating, stupid hippy editing, and dumb tree hugging quotes, the only good part in that video was the AM section

Extremely Sorry was pretty bad video-wise. way too long of claymation intros and goofy effect in the parts. not to mention the soundtrack. But Nike N.B.T.T. is definitely bad as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is the downfall of Nike SB, all successful skate brands run different lines at mall stores and core shops. The core shops are at the heart of skateboarding, big mistake on Nike's part. Airwalk tried the same thing in the 90s and look where they're at now.
