Here I go again, but not on my own. Thanks to the handful of people that gave input on what to do with the 2011 Platty's, the arbitrary, honorable mentions this site bestows each year, riffing on Thrasher's T'eddy Awards. Since we're talking awards, Turkey had one of the better quotes regarding this year's SOTY, Grant Taylor, who he called an "80's vert pro that can skate street." Take that as you will. The 2008, 2009 and 2010 Platty's can be found at the previous links.

I went to Europe for the first time this past summer with etnies and it's all right here. It was all really great and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
There're great things and really boring things about being a skateboarder who travels all the time as a part of the job. I interviewed Johnny Layton a few years back and he was rather blasé about a trip to South America, which I called him on, but I get it now.
Bratrud's book is out, I HATE: The Art of Todd Bratrud and you can buy it here, but if you can locally source it, better yet. I'm not sure who in the city, skateshop wise, will be carrying the book, but I'll let you know if I do figure it out.
I'm still all for any Platty Awards ideas, as detailed here.
Quartersnacks is killing it with "The Events That Defined New York Skateboarding In 2011 and you should read it all and keep an eye on further developments.
Go Wolves, and cheers to Spring in December.

Having just blasted out a fairly stream of consciousness riff, I'll now link to very, very good writing about skateboarding. Kyle Beachy's essay about the Nyjah 11/11/11 part is fantastic. It stands as sports writing that could exist outside of the skateboard world and having read it, I'm glad I didn't try to attempt to write my own post about the part. To point out the "brutality" of Nyjah's skating is absolutely spot on. I can't wait to read more from Beachy. (I'm also so pleased with this quote from the piece, Reynolds on Herman: "[He] [l]ooks the coolest and looks the coolest doing it." It's true. I should go off on that kind of "coolness" sometime.)
Rick Kamla just announced, from the other room, that the NBA
lockout is officially over. I'm not ashamed to say that I watched this video of the Twolves scrimmaging. Twice.

On misspellings and personally having a tough name to spell, Nike got CJ's name wrong, among a host of others that I did not note that vigorously. It has something to with my surname being spelled "Muzenrider" so many times that, well, I still care. Not that much though. To dropped "n's!"
I haven't said this yet: Thank goodness the NBA is back. If the Timberwolves even look 25 percent better than last year, I'm going to post about it. You've been warned.
Also, it's come to that time of year where I'm starting to think about drinking some beers and writing the 2011 Platty Awards. I'm putting out the call to crowd-source for the first time, so if you've got a nominee with an award in mind, leave it in the comments. It's essentially my rip-off of the T-Eddy Awards, FYI. I'm being lazy and not posting direct links to the past awards, but the Google search is so easy for them, I did it for you.
To riff on that Highlander thing from a post or two ago, if anyone wants to nominate someone for the laziest Platinumseagulls INC. intern ever, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! Have fun on your trip Kyle!
*Shitty pun aside, dudes were talking about it (@ 1:01). It's still got legs.
